The Furry

Do you guys know what furries are?

These are furries.

Ever since I heard of furries, I've been completely fascinated by them. My first experience with them was while watching "The Shining" when things are going batshit crazy near the end & there are some furries getting/giving head in a room or whatever. Next came an early episode of "CSI" where there was a furry convention. That episode was very enjoyable for me.

To me, furries were like God's little joke. Kind of like kids with red hair & Ross Perot.

Well, my last year in college at Toccoa I got a text from Caitlin asking me if I had seen the kid walking around campus with a tail. She was confused as to what was going on, but I immediately got ridiculously excited.

Could...could there be a real live furry at my conservative Christian college? Was it possible for me to receive a blessing of such magnitude?

Shortly afterward, Alexa texted me about the furry. Yes. I was that lucky. There really was a furry there. The campus was so small that it was now only a matter of time before I crossed paths with him.

The first time I saw him, it was from a distance. I did an actual double-take. Sure enough, there was a guy walking around in an ill-fitting shirt, jeans, ugly sandals, & a tail tied to his waist (I remember the entire outfit because it was so bizarre). After that, I saw him everywhere. Cafeteria? He was there. The dorm? He was there. Chapel? You best believe he was there with that tail blowing carelessly in the breeze behind him.

Word got out that he view this whole furry shtick as his "ministry." He felt that by dressing as one of them it would make it easier to infiltrate their ranks & tell them about Jesus. Because you know, there was such a huge furry population in Toccoa, Georgia. If he wanted to dress like an STD or an inbreed, I could understand that because those are actual epidemics there. Furries? Not so much.

Eventually, the administration told him he couldn't wear his tail to class; he got by this rule by tucking his tail into his jeans. He also continued to not shower, as his friends were also wont to do. Because you know, it takes a lot of time out of your busy schedule of playing video games, Dungeons & Dragons, & planning your next cosplay to shower.

I believe our dear furry friend was only a student at TFC for one year. After that, I graduated but I heard he didn't come back the next year. I wonder what Skidmark would have thought about him...

That Time I Pressed Assault Charges On A Customer

So the winner of the vote was #3. There is more ridiculousness to come from my present life, as well as the other stories that didn't win.

The date was December 13, 2004. I was 18, in my first semester of community college, & had just gone back to work at the movie theater where I had worked previously. "Blade: Trinity" had come out the day before, & we were quite busy. The way the box-office is set up there, there are two different boxes inside the lobby where the box-office attendants stand, without any kind of glass protection. The girl who had been in the box with me (that's what she said) was off somewhere else & the general manager had taken over her register. This woman came up to my manager to buy herself, her friend, & two kid's tickets to see "Blade: Trinity." I'm going to come right out & say it, but my manager was a complete ass about 97% of the time, on top of being an alcoholic, druggie, & racist. The woman was black, so he wanted to antagonize her some.

He asked if the kid's were hers & she said they weren't. He told her she couldn't buy them tickets, which was true. But he said it in such a way to make her mad. And mad she got. They bickered back & forth for quite a few minutes, all the while I'm standing next to him actually working & selling tickets. Eventually, the woman got so mad that she punched a sign that was in front of his register but she had bad aim & it hit me in the leg instead. She grabbed her posse & they ran, & he ran after them. I laughed about it with the customers who saw it.

Because of the type of town Rocky Mount is, we almost always had police at the theater during the weekend. Well, they became involved in the altercation. It was then we learned her name. Let's just say that her first name was very close to a type of horrible alcohol, her middle name isn't even a word, & her last name is very common. I'll call her Rummy Sascatoon Smith for this story. Anyway, Rummy was arrested. My manager wasn't satisfied with this, so he talks to me about how I was violated & we couldn't stand for this. While I agreed that we needed to prove a point that you can't just act a fool when you don't get your way, I wasn't so keen on the idea of pursuing it further.

He had other plans though, & eventually talked me into pressing assault charges to match his destruction of private property charges he was pressing on her.

However, we find out that our court date is the same day as the first day of classes at the community college. Manager had just re-enrolled there & didn't want to miss, along with me, so he told me that since we pressed the charges that if we didn't show up that it would be like we dropped them. Not so. About a week later I woke up to a cop knocking on my door giving me a subpoena. Two months later, I have to miss class to go to court only to find out that Rummy's lawyer couldn't make it so we got a continuance. A month after that we actually get this shit-show on the road & win.

A few months after that we find out that sweet little Rummy is appealing the judgment. This means we have to go to the county court & have a trial with a jury. I shit you not.

By this point, it's been almost exactly a year since the incident took place. I'm missing class AGAIN only to find out that my case will be heard later in the week. I show up a few days later only to find out that Rummy was withdrawing the appeal & her charges were going on her record.

In total, I missed four days of class just so I could "prove a point" & keep my manager happy. I didn't even sue. There was no reason to try to get money when there wasn't any damage to me. The only damage there was ended up being the sign getting cracked, Rummy's already tarnished record (she had prior embezzlement charges from her career at TJ Maxx), & my attendance record.

I occasionally Google Rummy, just to see what she's up to. She is currently running a beauty school & seems to be doing well.

Just Rambling

I went to the library a little while ago to get a book.

I couldn't find a book I wanted so I got 2 movies instead. Because that's a brain-stimulating alternative.

Both are going to be my rewards for finishing this damn independent study paper. Seriously, I'm STILL dicking around with it & I have 2 more assignments to go before the end of the month, on top of finishing all of my admissions junk for Liberty.

Also, here I am getting my chest waxed a few weeks ago when Robyn & Sarah were visiting:

Yeah, we gave up after our failure to make a decent happy trail...

Adventure

I remember it was around this time last year I watched the movie "Into The Wild" for the first time. I thought it was incredibly pretentious & couldn't sleep later on in the night because of the creepy-ass picture they show of the real guy who died. But one thing I got from the movie was that I needed adventure.

My life has been relatively uneventful. College was always in my plan since I can remember. My parents always wanted the best for me, so they always pushed me to be better than everyone in everything I did. For the most part, I was. But my life was so boring (unless I did something stupid, like locking myself in a basement with a bisexual Wiccan or almost getting my ass abducted by a truck driver). I didn't have friends I hung out with while I was a teenager. One time I went about 2 months without leaving the house except to go to my grandma's (I was home schooled at the time). So no adventure then.

When I went to college, I was overwhelmed to say the least. I might have been in a small town, but I had choices! People may or may not have wanted to have me around. And I wanted to be around (almost) everybody. I had adventure (it's always an adventure when alcohol is concerned & when you realize you're kind of a slut that doesn't put out), but I was still stuck in a routine.

Then I saw this movie. Mainly because I love Kristen Stewart & her inconsistent acting. I was stressing out because I was graduating in a few months & had no idea what came next. I knew graduate school was eventually going to occur, but what else? I came up with the idea to road trip. I made a mental list of everywhere I wanted to go (New Orleans, L.A., NYC, the plains of the mid-west). Too bad I couldn't find anyone to go with me & I got into a graduate school.

But here I am. I'll be 24 in exactly 6 months today. I just watched part of the movie again. The drive to do something has returned. Where is my adventure? Should I road trip? I looked at my bank account tonight & after the urge to cry had left, I began to chew on my options. Now would be a good time to just pack up & go somewhere. Obviously I would handle it different than Chris did in the movie (I'd let my parents know where I'd be, I'd be more hygienic, & I wouldn't die. At least not because I ate some damn poisonous berry). But is that the adventure I've been lacking?

Damn. It's too late for me to be thinking about this mess. I just don't want to be older & realize I'd wasted my youth, because I already feel like I've wasted it enough as it is.

Weekends

Tonight is the 5 week anniversary of how many Friday nights I've been at my apartment alone. Go me?

I finished writing my paper for my Human Development class. Now alls I have left to do is start doing my part of the Group counseling proposal, do those 2 psychological tests & write about them, & study for my test on Wednesday.

Also, I sent my job interviewer (I forgot to write about that) a thank you card today. I almost doused it in my 11 year old cologne but thought it to be a bit too much.

Well, I'm off to maybe watch "The Godfather" for the first time. Or not. I dunno. I really want to Skype.
