What's my name?

Today at work I was reminded of how the kids in the class I mentor in don't remember my name. I've been with them since November. Today I was called "Mr. Whatever Your Name Is" (they're supposed to call me "Mr. Andrew"). A lot of times they say, "Hey, Mr....." & then there's an awkward silence that I occasionally let permeate for maximum awkwardness (try to make those 7 year olds feel awkward).

Buuuuuuuuuuut seriously.

Also, one of the kids told me while I was helping him with his homework that he wished the other mentor for the class was there. Thanks, you little turd.

I was cracking up so hard at "Thanks, you little turd." That was great! Alas, I've got no advise with the turds in question. Just don't kick em, you could get into trouble with that!

I don't think it will come to fisticuffs but who knows. I have called them turds before but methinks they don't know what that is. Better that than calling them little shits.

I actually do get along with most of the kids & they seem to like me.

yeah, I'd stay away from calling them little shits! I think it's pretty awesome that you're a mentor though, what made you get into doing this?

I needed a job & it is related to the field I'm getting my Master's in (counseling). I thought it would be easier but kids show no loyalty. They will turn on you in a heartbeat.

I don't really mind it, but it's just a lot more draining physically & emotionally than I was expecting.
